U.S.-Israel Commercial Space Working Group Proceedings
On February 1st, 2011, the USISTF convened a U.S.- Israel Commercial Space roundtable in Tel Aviv, Israel stemming from recent shifts in both the U.S. and Israeli space policies towards encouraging development and testing of next generation, high-needs technologies (including space flight capabilities) in the private sector. The working group developed an actionable work plan to advance U.S.-Israel cooperation in commercial space technology development some of which included: implementing two-way U.S.-Israel commercial space trade missions to better map each countries capabilities, considering offering joint-solicitations for U.S. and Israeli companies to work together on commercial space technologies, and examining the feasibility of a Commercial Space MAGNET program through the Office of the Chief Scientist.

The Experience of Six Small Successful Countries (Israel 2028, Appendix 1)
As part of developing the strategic economic plan for Israel for 2028, the USISTF conducted best-practice benchmarking in six dynamic, prosperous countries. The nations studied in this survey were Estonia, Finland, Ireland, Singapore, Sweden and Taiwan. They were chosen for their success in achieving high rankings in international economic competitiveness, as well as for the relatively small size of their economies.
The results of this study provided important lessons about some of the types of policies Israel might choose to adopt in the future to improve its level of competitiveness and to enhance its economic achievements. Highlights of themes and principles that contributed to the success of these nations include a focus on long-range innovation planning strategy, high level political champions of such long-term strategic thinking, emphasis on continuity of planning implementation across changing governments, planned innovation ecosystems, dedication to social cohesion and a focus on key industries to support.
This study was also included as an appendix to the original Israel 2028 report. To read this study, click here.
